Ethnic costumes: LÀO ETHNIC GROUP
The traditional costume of Lào women consists of a headscarf, a short blouse, a skirt, and a belt. The women's scarf is long, indigo colored, decorated with colored fabric tassels at both ends, and when worn tilted to one side (similar to Lự women). The short blouse is made of indigo, checkered, or patterned fabric and features an open chest with button fastening made of silver or aluminum. The collar is decorated with string patterns. The skirt is of a closed type, reaching the ankles, with the lower part adorned with horizontal bands of intricate patterns resembling humans, leaves, and wild birds.
Belts are commonly made of white or green yarn or threads. Side bags are made of cotton fabric and decorated with patterns of turtles, rice, “xà cạp”, .... Lào ethnic women use hairpins when tying their hair into a bun on top of the head, wear tube-shaped earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings, the “xà tích” made of silver, .... A few people still dye their teeth black or cover them with gold. Children often wear “vía” bracelets...
