Ethnic costumes: DAO ETHNIC GROUP (DAO TIỀN)

CHARACTERISTIC DESCRIPTION

In the past, Dao ethnic men often tied their hair at the back of the neck or left a long tuft of hair on the top of their heads while shaving the surrounding area. Therefore, they used to wear a scarf in the "đầu rìu" style made of long indigo-dyed fabric. Nowadays, they prefer short hair and enjoy wearing caps or berets. Dao men's shirt has two types: short and long. Short shirts are worn in daily life, while long shirts are reserved for festivals and market days. There are up to four types of short shirts, with the most common being the plain or indigo-dyed short shirt. Traditional short shirts have a low neckline, a chest opening, and the left side of the body adorned with intricate embroidery, extending to near the hem, often featuring additional silver eight-pointed stars. Dao people refer to this embroidered strip as "van kin". The sleeves and the back of the shirt are also embroidered. The traditional pants of Dao men are the "chân què lá tọa" style, dyed in indigo or white. They also like wearing necklaces and bracelets made of silver, copper, or aluminum.
