Traditional Costume

Male - Lự ethnic group

Ethnic costumes: LỰ ETHNIC GROUP

CHARACTERISTIC DESCRIPTION

Lự ethnic men have short hair and go bareheaded, wearing sandals or shoes with modern clothing similar to that of the Kinh people today. However, during festivals and traditional celebrations, they still wear traditional costumes. Men's scarves are simpler compared to women's scarves. The scarf usually has decorative patterns running horizontally on one end. When worn, they wrap the scarf around their heads in three or four loops, similar to the folding style of the Kinh people, with the decorative patterns showing on the forehead. The traditional shirt for men is made of indigo fabric. It has a cross-closure style with fabric buttons, two pockets on the sides, and an optional pocket on the left chest. It is tailored to fit the body closely, reaching only to the waist, with short sleeves. It is decorated with hand-embroidered floral patterns on the pockets and collar.
The black pants of the Lự ethnic men in the past were quite similar to the men's pants of the Thái and Lào people. It is made of dyed black or indigo fabric with an inner drawstring, reaching the ankles, and without pockets. However, from the knee down, it is narrower and has embroidered patterns. In the past, they mostly walked barefoot, even when going up to cultivate fields or into the forest. Nowadays, Lự people often wear rubber sandals with a heel strap or rubber-soled shoes.
