Traditional Costume

Male - Thái ethnic group

Ethnic costumes: THÁI ĐEN ETHNIC GROUP (THÁI ĐEN)

CHARACTERISTIC DESCRIPTION

The daily clothes of Thái ethnic men in Lai Châu consist of a headscarf, a short-sleeved tunic, and trousers. The headscarf (khằn trọc) is made of black indigo fabric, measuring 33cm in width and 120cm in length, without any decorative patterns. At the age of 14–15, male members of the Thái community traditionally begin wearing the headscarf, marking the onset of adulthood. However, in modern times, fewer Thái men follow this tradition.
